Galerie BSL - Béatrice Saint-Laurent
Directed by Béatrice Saint-Laurent, Galerie BSL commissions unique and limited-edition pieces that explore the shifting borders between art and design, between sculpture and function. Emotions created by the human hand meet those born from technological innovation, shaping new territories in the approach to the object.
This year, Galerie BSL dedicates its booth to the study of three materials - metal, stone and wood – by major artists and designers: Nacho Carbonell, Taher Chemirik and Faye Toogood.
‘Designer of the Future’ at Design Miami/ Basel in 2009, Nacho Carbonell unveils his first works made of stone and bronze as part of a new collection Time is a Treasure. In this project, Nacho gives a second life to the external parts of agate stones that had been discarded by French jewelry houses during the production of clocks. He made his own clocks, returning to the stones their right to become very special clocks, original creatures that give time only when you look inside them.
Named by Time Magazine as one of today’s most influential designers, the renowned jewelry designer Taher Chemirik presents new cabinets and tables made out of copper, brass, wood and rock crystal. Handmade in Paris, these sensual, refined and dramatic ‘Interior Treasures’ vouch for his wealth of talent which expresses itself through volume, whatever the scale.
Galerie BSL is also proud to present the very first pieces produced for the gallery by British designer Faye Toogood, interior stylist and creative consultant (Wallpaper, Alexander McQueen, Comme des Garçon). Her works, which combine brass mesh, walnut and British rock stones with elegant simplicity, are sophisticated and conceptual compositions for a lifetime decor.
In addition, Galerie BSL presents a sofa and several Soma lighting pieces by Israeli designer Ayala Serfaty. Her work is part of the MoMA and the Met collections.
