Museum für Gestaltung Zürich
Museum of Design Zurich
The Museum für Gestaltung Zürich is Switzerland's leading design and visual communication museum. Between five and seven temporary exhibitions annually present themes and monographs from the areas of product design, applied arts, fashion, textiles and jewelry, graphic design, typography, poster and book art, new media and film, as well as architecture, and interior design.
In its archives the museum preserves objects of international importance: the Design Collection, the Poster Collection, the Graphics Collection, and the Applied Art Collection hold a wealth of key items illustrating aesthetic development since the early days of industrialization. A selection of these objects, collected from 1875 onwards, is regularly presented in national and international exhibitions. The museum's outward appearance is shaped largely by its architecture. The landmark building (from 1933) designed by the Zurich architects Steger & Egender is one of the most striking examples of the Modern Architecture movement in Switzerland. The museum is part of the Zurich University of the Arts.
